Understand.

Find courage.

Make changes.

My therapy is dynamic, insightful, and practical. My goal is to clarify motivations, relationships, and what’s really going on. The next step is encouraging you to act with dignity and wisdom, making decisions that matter.

The ultimate goal of therapy is change. Sometimes it’s how you feel, like with anxiety or depression, and sometimes it’s how you feel about your partner, or even yourself. Sometimes you’re just looking for clarity and the confidence to make a difficult decision.

In therapy we untangle the thoughts, feelings, and reactions you’re having, examine them, in some cases consider their origin, and come up with a practical plan for managing or challenging them. I routinely assign homework to my clients so they can make progress outside of therapy. Sometimes it’s a question to ponder, other times it’s a habit to break. Humor is also important in personal growth.

I believe that you are the expert in your life. Deep down you have an endless supply of wisdom to draw from. Accessing that inner wisdom is the real goal of therapy. That wisdom helps you appreciate your worth, bringing your life and relationships into harmony. The trick is learning how to slow down, listen, and keep an open mind.

Modalities

I try to avoid clinging too firmly to any modality or framework because I find it’s more effective to listen without trying to make a theory work, otherwise you risk ignoring or skewing information and not understanding fully. With that said I tend to borrow from Cognitive Therapy, REBT, Zen and mindfulness, Narrative Therapy (and something I call Narrative Theory, my own invention), Adlerian, and psychodynamic.
